VERSE OF THE WEEK
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. – Romans 1:20
The Lord Exists
Though an increasing number of Americans reportedly question the existence of God, He has expressed His desire for creation to know Him and has revealed Himself through both general and special revelation. General revelation refers to what He has shown you in nature—starry skies, sunsets, flowers, and animals. Special revelation is the truth you discover about His character through studying Scripture and personal experience. Without the Lord, there is no beauty, no conscience, no ethics, and no life. Even avowed and widely-taught atheist and existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre came to a personal knowledge of God before his death, saying, “I do not feel like the product of chance, a speck of dust in the universe, but someone who was awaited, prepared, prefigured. In short, a being that only a Creator could have placed here. And this idea of a creative hand refers to God.” As the apostle Peter wrote, “The Lord… is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Take a moment to consider the ways that you have experienced God, through divine revelation, intervention, or answered prayer, and thank Him today for His presence and His desire to be known!
